That’s Not How it Happened is a narrative adventure game where you experience the same story from three different perspectives and game genre.

That’s Not How it Happened is a MFA thesis project and an Advanced Game Project directed by Meny Menczel.
In the game, family members tell the story of their family inn burning down from their own perspective through different game genres.
It has fun distinctive gameplay and a comedic, fully voiced narrative.
I worked as a designer on the project. My works included:
- Designed and documented the final battle of the game, including the detailed sequence, player interactions, and visuals elements.
- Worked on different types of player attacks; documented and drew visuals to communicate to art.
- Visualized and documented lists of visual and sound effects for the game,
- Research games from the respective genres
- Brainstorm and document game details, and iterated them based on playtests.
